Parent drop off/ pick up

March 24th, 2011

In the mornings, the designated parent drop off is in the back by the gym.  If you want to walk your child to class, please park in a parking space.  The far right lane is for QUICK drop off only.

In the afternoons, parents should continue to use the front parking lot.  Please park your car when picking up your child.  CARS SHOULD NEVER DOUBLE PARK.  If all spaces are utilized, you may park in the back teacher parking lot and walk to the front of the school.

Children should not be crossing unattended.  Your child’s safety is our MAIN PRIORITY!

Promoting Healthy Habits

March 24th, 2011

In our efforts to continue to promote healthy habits, we want you to be aware that many times children may be prone to getting head lice.  There are various ways children can come in contact with lice.  We ask for your assistance in helping the school by being aware of some of the signs and symptoms such as an itchy, red scalp.  You may also want to do periodic head checks on your child to look for more visible evidence.  The school nurse can be helpful in suggesting treatment options and district policy related to this concern.  Please call the school nurse, Mrs. Johnson, at 397-5100 if you have further questions. Your continued efforts in working with the school can help us address this issue.

Late Arrival/Early Depature

November 18th, 2010

ALL students leaving school early or arriving late must be signed in/out through the office.  You will be asked to identify yourself by showing a driver’s license when signing your child out early.  Early departures and excessive tardiness will be considered a partial day absence and is a violation of the compulsory attendance law.

Excessive tardiness and/or absences can lead to judicial action against the parent and/or student.  Lets work together to make sure your child is present every day.

Birthday Celebrations

September 15th, 2010

Elementary schools are  required to follow nutrition rules established by the Texas Dept. of Agriculture. Parents may choose the food items sent to school for their own child, but may not send or purchase food for other students.  Cupcakes are the ONLY item that may be brought for birthdays at McDermott (no cakes, donuts , drinks, candy, etc.)  Parents must make arrangements with the teacher prior to bringing cupcakes.

VISITOR REQUIREMENTS

August 10th, 2009

In our efforts to improve safety and security for our children, McDermott Elementary will be implementing the Raptor Visitor Identification System beginning the 2009-2010 school year.  We are very excited to have the very latest in hi-tech ID security on our campus.  The system will require ALL VISITORS to have a photo ID such as a driver’s license or state-issued ID card that can be scanned.  All visitors on campus, from 7:45-2:45p.m., will be expected to present their identification in the office upon arrival.
